How Do Free Downloads Work in Team SPG?

A free download is a Team SPG worksheet, checklist, or guide you can get with just your email. Open the link you were sent, enter your email (or sign in with Google, Apple, or Microsoft), and we email you a download link. Clicking that link starts the download and sets up your free Team SPG account at the same time, so the file and every other free resource are saved in My Toolbox.

Getting a Free Download

1. Open the link from the email, post, or ad that shared it. The email form is at the top of the page; the document title, description, and file type are below it.
2. Enter your email (first name is optional), then click Email me the download. Or click one of the Get it with buttons to use your Google, Apple, or Microsoft account and download right away.
3. If you used email, check your inbox. The message contains a Download button. Clicking it starts the download and signs you in to your free Team SPG account. If you already had an account with that email, it signs you in to that one.

The mailing-list checkbox is on by default. Uncheck it if you only want the file and not our emails. You can change this later from any email footer.

Your Free Account

When you click the emailed download link, we create a free Team SPG account for that email if one doesn't exist yet. There is no password to remember: the link in any Team SPG email signs you in, and you can set a password any time with Forgot password? on the login page. The first time you open the portal, a banner asks you to accept the Terms and Privacy Policy. You'll be asked for your company name on a later visit.

If you used a first name on the form, that's the name on the account. If you left it blank, we use the part of your email before the @ sign until you change it under Settings.

If Your Link Expired or Didn't Arrive

Download links expire after a short time, and each link can be used a limited number of times. If yours has stopped working, open the link again and click Send me a new link. If you're still on the thank-you page, use Resend the link there instead. A fresh email goes out in a minute or two.

If you don't see the email, check your spam or promotions folder and add teamspg.com to your safe senders.

After the download starts, the page shows what comes with your free account and the other free resources waiting in My Toolbox. Click Open My Toolbox to see them. If you'd rather not wait for the email at all, the thank-you page has Skip the wait — create it now, which signs you up with the same email.

For Team SPG Staff: Offering a Document as a Free Download

Free downloads are managed from Admin > Documents.

1. Open a document (or upload a new one) and turn on Free download (lead capture).
2. The URL slug fills in from the title. Edit it if you want a shorter link. The shareable link is shown below the slug with a copy button.
3. Add a Gate headline and Gate blurb for the landing page, then save.

Saving with the toggle on adds Free to the document's Membership Access so new free accounts can open it in their Toolbox. The free download link is a separate public path that captures the visitor's email before sending the file.

Tracking results

• The Free download badge in the documents table shows requests, unique emails, and downloads for that document. Hover the badge for the breakdown.
• Each captured email is added to Contacts with the source free_download and shows as a Lead in Admin > Marketing Reports. When the visitor clicks the emailed link, the account that gets created counts as a Signup in the same report.
• Use Admin > UTM Generator and pick the download under Free downloads to build tracked links for email, social, or ads.

Using a free download as an article call to action

1. Go to Admin > Content System > CTAs and add a CTA with type Free download. Pick the document and the heading, button, and link fill in for you.
2. Open the article under Admin > Content System, set Call to action to that CTA, and save. The article shows that CTA instead of the default assessment CTA on the next site build.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Team SPG account to get a free download?

No. Enter your email on the download page and we send you the link. Clicking it creates a free account for you automatically, with no password to set. That account gives you instant access to every free resource under My Toolbox.

I didn't set a password. How do I log in later?

Click the link in any Team SPG email and you're signed in. If you want a password, go to the login page and use Forgot password? with the same email.

My download link says it expired. What do I do?

Open the original link again and click Send me a new link. A new email goes out right away. Links expire for security, so requesting a fresh one is normal.

Will I get marketing emails if I download something?

Only if the mailing-list checkbox is on when you submit. It's on by default; uncheck it to receive only the download email. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link.

Can a document be a free download and still be members-only in the portal?

Partly. The free download link is public and captures an email first. Turning the toggle on adds the Free level to the document so new free accounts can open it in the portal too; paid levels you set stay in place. Turning the toggle off disables the public link without changing portal access.
